Software Versions
There are two versions of the Diet and Exercise Tracker application, an
online version and a standalone version. In actuality, both versions are the same
application, what really differentiates the versions from each other is not the
application itself, but the way each version behaves.
Regardless of which version you choose to run, neither version requires an internet
browser while they are running. However, the online version does require you to
have an internet connection while it is being run.
The following list provides a quick overview of the main differences between the
online and standalone versions:
Online Version:
- The online version is run from the Internet. In other words, the application is
not technically installed on computer, instead, the files needed to run the application
are downloaded from the Internet and stored in a temporary folder (just like a webpage).
This basically means that every time you want to run the online application you
need to start it up from the website (just like an online application).
- The application data is stored in our online databases.
- Because the application and its data reside on the Internet, you can access your
data from any computer in the world (including from your fitness facility if a computer
terminal is available).
Standalone Version:
- The application runs completely on your computer, no internet connection is required.
- The data is saved locally in a database located on your computer.
- If you need portability and don’t want to use the online version, you could install
the application files on a USB memory stick (or other removable media) and every
time you need to use the application insert the memory stick in your computer and
run the application from there.
